At ekukhuleni academy, we individualize learning, regardless of the learner’s disability and we adapt to the learning speed of the child. This is unlike Government schools where the group is lock-stepped regardless of the learner’s academic abilities. We allow the child to progress independently through the curriculum, and not as a group. Individualization allow each learner to master a subject before moving on, which is the foundation for all future learning. We recognize the fact that a child must be able to identify, recognize and correctly write the letters of the alphabet, say each letter sound, blend these sounds together to form words, and learn t take responsibility for learning before he/she is capable of learning o his/her own. We do this within the first fifteen to eighteen weeks and prepare a child for individualized learning instruction. All students are different, pupil must be on a level of curriculum where he can perform. When a student is to be enrolled at Ekukhuleni academy he/she is given a diagnostic test to determine the learner’s academic ability and this clearly identifies any gaps within all subjects. The learner is then placed on Curriculum at his/her academic performance grade level in each subject and the learning gaps are then addressed.
Learners learn through setting daily goals and are challenged by making their own work. This key to learning allows the child to visualize, plan their daily progress. This is unique discipline places responsibility and accountability on the learner for learning, thus establishing a lifetime appreciation for goal setting and achievements. This is a valuable skill in the workplace.
The biblical values of excellence in all things we do is translated into mastering subject content. This is the foundation upon which all future learning is built. Learner’s must master a minimun of 80% of the material before advancing. The teachers develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the development of children, according to age, ability and aptitude. Learners learn out interest and curiosity, not to please the adult in power.
Its philosophy is built on the basic principles of the word of God. Learners are taught to see life from God’ point of view, take responsibility for their own learning and walk in Godly wisdom and character. We also focus on what is best for individual child which is the first concern of education.
